About Mike

Thank you for visiting my website. If you bookmark this page in your browser, you’ll more easily find me again in future.

I have been working at management level in the Charity Sector for over thirty years and as a professional Charity Consultant since 2009. I am available for management, fundraising and consultancy work. This means I can most likely help your organisation, even if it isn’t registered with the Charity Commission, so co-operatives, CICs and other forms of Social Enterprise are very welcome. I can be hired by the hour, by the day, week or month.

I could do something quite straight forward, like advising on/drafting policies, procedures, legal structure changes etc. and their implications. I can help you recruit Trustees, staff and volunteers.

I could help you develop your ideas and set up a new Charity or Social Enterprise, including drafting Governing Documents and registering with the relevant regulator – Charity Commission, Community Interest Company (CIC) Regulator, Financial Conduct Authority etc. I can help your Trustees and Senior Managers rationalise services, form partnerships, manage a merger or even think through and take the rights steps to close down and de-register.

Sometimes organisations engage me to provide Mentoring or Coaching for their Chief Executive Officer/Director or other managers and staff.

If your charity has up to £250k annual income, I can carry out an Independent Examination of the Annual Accounts under SORP (Charity Accounting Rules). I can do your Bookkeeping for you and/or produce compliant Annual Accounts statements.

I can write tailored Business Plans, Income Generation Strategies etc. and I can conduct Organisational Strength Reviews and Funded Project Evaluations (e.g. Big Lottery) etc. I can design community/charity projects, apply for major grants to fund them and then, if needed, I could even manage or co-ordinate the delivery of the project itself.

I can lead on all aspects of fundraising and income generation, including tendering for service contracts with local authorities and CCGs etc. I could show you how to set up, run and maintain a 250 Club, where for example 250 supporters give the equivalent of just £250 (or more) a year each to support your cause. By the way, 250 supporters giving just £250 comes to £62,500 a year – every year! This is very useful to charities because the funding obtained is usually unrestricted, meaning it can be used to cover core and overhead costs grants funders may not wish to consider.

Do you need help on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion? I could help you ensure you are complying with GDPR and Data Protection.

On my Events Page you will see regular training courses/seminars on things like ‘Bookkeeping & Accounting’ and ‘How Charities Get & Keep Getting Grants’. I understand charities and social enterprises can struggle to pay commercial rates to gain the help and skills they need, so my half-day seminars are just £50 per person and I DO NOT charge VAT!

I’ve developed some very useful tools using Microsoft programmes, including Model Project Profile (Word), Grant Funding Strategy (Excel) and BAAT-V1 Bookkeeping and Annual Accounting Tool (Excel). I can also provide access to a FREE Full Costing Matrix. My tools are FREE to anyone attending my seminars – just bring a USB drive with you and ask me to copy the tools over for you. It really is as easy as that! I’ll even give you BAAT-V1 FREE if you come to that seminar or you can book me to come to your charity and show you how to set it up and use it. Of course, you are welcome to buy BAAT-V1 on its own (without attending a seminar or having me show you how to use it). That would normally cost £40, so again even BAAT-V1 as a standalone is very affordable.

You may need help with team building, merging with another organisation or other aspects of managing change.

I can provide more detailed in-depth support, should you need an interim manager to cover for absence, for example. I’m a safe reliable pair of hands and willing to consider longer term part-time or full-time roles.

My experience and knowledge are quite extensive. I am Post Graduate Qualified in Charity Resource Management (Sheffield Hallam University mature student), with merit overall (distinction in Charity Financial Management and Accounting). I have a demonstrable track record in generating income and excellent experience of building teams and managing staff/volunteers. I am a full professional member of the Institute of Fundraising (MInstF-Cert).

I wish you the very best of success in all your endeavours to make your community and the wider world a better place and to make a real difference to the lives of those most in need.

Please share this page on Facebook/Twitter etc. and let your other contacts know about this website, such as Senior Management/Trustee Boards of other charities you feel may be interested or benefit from my skills or advice.
